PERTH Glory chief executive Paul Kelly says he's 60-70 percent confident the club can attract LA Galaxy to Western Australia for a high-profile friendly featuring David Beckham.
Although Kelly said discussions were just in the preliminary phase, he felt quietly confident Glory would play Galaxy either in late November or early December this year at Patersons Stadium.
Galaxy have travelled to Australia twice before for friendly matches, with the LA team reportedly playing either Sydney FC or Melbourne Victory in an initial eastern coast game before travelling to Perth.
However, Kelly acknowledged the club had to overcome several financial hurdles as the cost of bringing Beckham and the Galaxy to Perth is reportedly estimated at $2 million dollars.
"Without giving you hard, fast figures, it's about three or four times what it cost for Celtic," said Kelly, referring to last month's successful friendly with the Scottish club that earned Glory a small profit.
"It's very early days. Obviously there's a lot more information that we've got to receive and it'd be a purely commercial venture put on."
Kelly said the only way such a match could be held would be to move it away from Perth's traditional ground at nib Stadium to Patersons Stadium, where an estimated higher crowd of up to 44,000 people could bring down the cost of tickets.
"Preliminary figures would indicate that you've got a starting price of $50 (per ticket) and that could range up to $150," Kelly admitted.
"But that depends on the sponsors and everything else that you would get involved. It's very preliminary at the moment, we've registered interest, there's a lot more discussion and information to be provided."
Kelly, though, was confident the Beckham factor would guarantee a crowd.
"Beckham in itself is a worldwide brand," he said.
"I think I was quoted today, it was only last week he was on the front of Women's Day, so I think he'd have that appeal for anyone in general, not just football supporters."
Although it won't quite have the profile of playing LA Galaxy, Glory will play another international friendly next Tuesday night at nib Stadium against Dubai's Al Ahli Club.
Al Ahli were one of a host of Gulf states sides chasing Harry Kewell, while the club was also linked with Socceroos skipper Lucas Neill.
The club's ambassador is 2006 Italian World Cup-winning captain Fabio Cannavaro and Kelly is hopeful Glory players will get the opportunity to speak with the former Real Madrid and Juventus superstar.
"Glory are not controlling the aspect of that tour," admitted Kelly as the friendly was put on through Football West and Al Ahli, all but cutting Glory out of the organisational process.
"Certainly he'll (Cannavaro) be at the game and I would think they would bump into him at some stage."
