Sage said money was not an issue for the former Melbourne Victory marquee who was keen to sort out his club future in a bid to remain in the reckoning for the national team.

But the mining magnate said Football Federation Australia would have to provide some form of dispensation to the Perth club which already holds a full roster of players.

Sage will be in Singapore tomorrow but Glory CEO Paul Kelly and coach Ian Ferguson will meet with the 34-year-old to discuss a potential deal with Aussie football star.

Kewell left the A-League after just one season to return with his family to the UK in order to be with his ill mother-in-law. As recently as last Friday his actress wife Sheree Murphy tweeted: “Just sat with my mum... Keeping her company while she is having her chemo...”

The A-List couple attended the Melbourne Cup this week where Kewell had a chance encounter with Sage and told him his reason for leaving the country had been sorted.

Since his arrival back in Australia, Kewell has been linked with Melbourne Heart, Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers.

Sage told 6PR:  “He said he’s shown interest in any club that wants him now that he’s got his family issue out of the way he’s willing to move anywhere to do it,” Sage told 6PR.

“Fortuitously he’s coming to Perth not only to talk to us – there’s some pro am golf tournament that he’s doing for some charity over the next few days in Perth, I think it’s Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

“So he’s bringing his wife with him to check out Perth as well. So that’s all good for us to have some talks.”

“The only problem that we’ve got now… we’ve got strict guidelines on players and how many you can have – so our list is full at the moment.

“That is the only small impediment but I’m sure the FFA may do something given the concessions they gave to Emile Heskey (Newcastle Jets) and (Alessandro) Del Piero (Sydney FC)."

The other issue is where he would fit into a talented squad with strong players already laying claim to his preferred roles on the left wing, attacking midfield or as a striker.

But Sage said Kewell told him money was not an issue: “He said at this time in his career he’s made a lot of money out of football and the money issue won’t be a problem.

“I said look we’re struggling in Perth, I’ve made losses, and he was well aware of that fact. And the comment to me exactly was, ‘Tony I’m interested in playing football. I want to play for Australia again. The only way I’m going to do it is play’.”
