The introduction of two new Queensland based sides has increased the number of cross country trips for the West Australian's however Glory officials have worked closely with Football Federation Australia (FFA) to ensure the welfare of Perth's players was given the highest priority in the extended 27 match season.

"The impact of travel can't be underestimated and we are pleased that the FFA has acknowledged it as a significant issue faced by Perth Glory and accommodated a minimum six day break where possible," said Perth Glory CEO Scott Gooch.

"We will be able to reduce some of the impact of our travel with several of the farthest away matches to be played consecutively. We successfully implemented an extended trip last season when we played Wellington (D 1-1) and Sydney (W 1-4) and will look to replicate that again in 2009/10."

Perth could undertake up to four overstays with particular focus on away doubles against Gold Coast and North Queensland which are scheduled in rounds 11 & 12 and rounds 18 & 20 (*note rd 19 is a deferred midweek match).

Glory will face a challenging opening to the season with two away matches to start the campaign and five of the opening eight matches outside of Western Australia.

"We're disappointed that our members and supporters don't get to see us play at home until round three," said Gooch.

"Getting off to a strong start will be paramount for the club and we are confident that the pre-season program we have in place, which includes matches against quality international opponents, and additional resources in the football department will serve us well for the upcoming season."

While the club is disappointed only 13 of a possible 14 matches have been allocated at home Gooch said he was buoyed by another Boxing Day fixture which last year drew a season best crowd of 12,581.

Perth will play 12 of their 13 home games at Members Equity Stadium while Subiaco Oval has been scheduled for one fixture (rd15 v Sydney) however the club is working with Members Equity Stadium management to overcome conflicting events that weekend.

"Members Equity Stadium couldn't confirm their availability for Sunday 22 November at this stage however we are continuing to work with them in a bid to overcome any issues. We're committed to playing all of our matches at a rectangular venue to ensure our members and supporters enjoy a premier match day experience," Gooch said.

West Australian football fans will be able to enjoy a spread of home matches with two Friday night games, and a combination of afternoon and early evening matches on Saturday (4) and Sunday (7).

"We went to the FFA with a request that the timing of our kick-off's, particularly on Sunday's, took families into consideration and are particularly pleased with that outcome," said Gooch.
