Mr Sage emerged from an early Friday morning meeting with the players confident they are focused on turning the club’s season around.

He said: “We asked for their 100 per cent commitment and that is what we received.

“I have been given an undertaking from each player that anyone who pulls on the Glory shirt will give their all for the club. As an owner, and also as a passionate supporter of the club, I can’t ask for anything more.

“There is no doubt we have the talent in the squad to win matches and they’re hurting after the results so far.

“The players have given us their commitment and in turn we’ll do everything we can to back them up. There is a genuine feeling of confidence returning amongst the group and I believe that much better things are to come this season.

"There's two clubs that need 46 players in the next eight months, so if anyone wanted to stick their hand up, we can tear up their contract, we would have done it. It would have been easy for both us and the club and the player."

Sage said, however, that while he felt many players were not performing out on the park, the ultimate responsibility for the Glory's failings this season - they have earned four points from a possible 21 - lay with coach Mitchell.

And, the Perth businessman said if the Glory was not in the mix to make the finals by Round 12, then Mitchell's position would be under serious pressure, with his one-year contract unlikely to be renewed for 2009-10.

"He's got a one year contract and verbally he said that his performance is going to be based on making the four this year and the board concur," Sage said.

"His commitment, his view, his belief was we'd make the top four this year."

But Sage said that despite the club struggling on the field, there had never been any intention of offering former Socceroo and Glory player Stan Lazaridis the position of football director, despite Perth media reports suggesting otherwise.

Sage said Lazaridis had been offered an ambassadorial board role with the club that would ostensibly be an unpaid position akin to board members at AFL clubs, but said Lazaridis had stepped back from accepting this due to other commercial commitments and media attention.

And, he added that any reports of Lazaridis becoming a football director, effectively taking a position that gave him more influence over the team than Mitchell were untrue.

Sage also said poor crowd attendances would endanger the club's viability in Perth, although he added that Football Federation Australian was doing its utmost to support the Glory through the turbulent period.

"(If) we come out and beat Sydney (in the next game) and we play attractive football, I think the crowds will respond."

"We're definitely here next year, we've brought the licence for that period of time, so if they do turn up we will have a Hyundai A-league license secured."

As part of the club’s on going review practices CEO Scott Gooch has identified the need to allocate additional resources to the football department to ensure best practice is implemented in preparation, play and recovery.

Mr Sage said: “We have already made a significant investment in the club but will make further resources available to ensure we have best practice.

“This will bolster our football department and in turn enable Coach Dave Mitchell to get this team firing on all cylinders.

“Dave has our total support and also that of the all the players to lead the club to a successful future."

A leadership group will also be formed to assist Captain Jamie Coyne with the additional responsibilities he has undertaken this season. Experienced striker Eugene Dadi and long time Glory star Jamie Harnwell will join the leadership group with Coyne to head the three man panel and continue to lead the team as Captain.

Mr Gooch said: “The leadership group is something we’ve discussed for a while and feel that it can help the squad.

“It is in no way a reflection of Jamie’s job so far, in fact he endorsed the idea and has said from day one that he is developing into the role and appreciates the opinions from the playing group.

“Jamie Harnwell and Eugene Dadi have wonderful experience in the game and will no doubt bring a variety of ideas to the table. Mixing that in with Jamie Coyne’s commitment to the group and passion for the Glory we’re sure it will have positive outcomes for the club."
