PERTH Glory has outlined its itinerary for a special pre-season training camp to be held in South Africa for the second successive year.
Sponsored by Kaboko Mining and Okap Ventures, the 14 day trip will be an integral part of Perth Glory’s build-up to the 2012/13 Hyundai A-League season.
“We are all looking forward to the camp,” Perth Glory coach Ian Ferguson said. “Again, we’ve got some new recruits this year and the time together will help bond the squad together.
“The camp was massive for us last year and gave us a solid base to structure our pre-season on.”
Like last year’s trip, Perth Glory will be based at first class venues, with the squad to be housed at the Ingwenyama Conference & Sports Resort – Mbombela (Nelspruit), home of Chile for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
A key part of the intense program will be three games (July 24, 27 and 31) against sides from the South African Premier League.
Perth Glory will also be heavily involved in key community programs at grassroots level.
“First and foremost the trip is to help prepare the squad but we also have a strong commitment to engage with the local townships,” Perth Glory Chief Executive Paul Kelly said.
“Community is a big part of Perth Glory’s vision and our development officers will run daily clinics during the camp.”
The 31 person travelling part will leave Perth tomorrow night and return on August 4.
