PERTH Glory have moved quickly to dispel reports Robbie Fowler had quit the club and revealed they had offered the veteran legend a new one year deal to return next season.
Reports in Sydney today claimed Perth Glory's signing of the A-League's master hitman Shane Smeltz had sealed Fowler's fate and he would now exit australia to return home to the UK.
But Glory today came out to refute the story and insisted they were still in contract talks with Fowler - and were keen to squeeze another season from the former Liverpool star.
"These reports in today’s media are false and Robbie, who is currently back in England with his family, has been offered a new one-year-deal to play with Perth Glory for the 2011/12 Hyundai A-League season," said a club statement.
"Perth Glory have given Robbie until mid-April to decide his future and the club hopes he decides to return to Perth for a second season."
Fowler was spotted in the crowd at Sunday's Scottish League Cup final between Rangers and Celtic. He has been linked with transfer to Preston North End and also a coaching role at Milton Keynes Dons.
Glory are expected to confirm the Smeltz deal later this week after the successful conclusion of the contract talks were exclusively revealed by au.fourfourtwo.com on our Twitter account on Friday.
