ADELAIDE United's Youth has found itself on the wrong side of a 2-1 score line to Perth Glory Youth for the second time this season following their National Youth League match at Perth's 6PR Stadium.
Ryan Pearson and Cameron Edwards gave the Glory a two goal lead at the break before Reds captain Matthew Mullen pegged one back with a 71st minute penalty. That was how the score stayed at the final whistle, the young Reds missing a chance to move their way up the table.
Perth were fielding five regular senior players but it did not intimidate United's young brigade as the visiting Reds came out strongly, Joe Costa prominent on the right side of midfield.
But with United having nothing to show for their good early work, Perth went ahead in the 19th minute when Pearson cracked a blistering 25 metre shot into the top corner giving Reds keeper Luke Ostbye no chance.
Edwards then doubled Perth's lead in the 37th minute, the goal leaving the Reds with it all to do after the break.
With 20 minutes to go, United's Youth received a life line when Francesco Monterosso was brought down by Pearson inside the penalty area, Mullen smashing home the spot kick to set up a tense finale.
But an equaliser was not forthcoming for the young Reds, who find themselves on the road again next weekend when they head to the Sunshine State to tackle league leaders Gold Coast United Youth on Sunday 14 November.
