PERTH Glory's James Robinson will have surgery tomorrow on an abdominal injury that is expected to sideline him for ten weeks.
Robinson was a standout for the club during their pre-season build-up but sustained the injury a day before Perth’s round one match against Adelaide.
He was rested and made significant improvement to return to the side in round four but while the 26 year old played three matches, his recovery was significantly hampered.
In consultation with the club’s medical staff it was determined that surgery would be the best option to fix the conjoint tendon injury.
“It’s really unfortunate for Robbo, he was terrific in pre-season and then picked up the injury just before our first game,” said coach Dave Mitchell.
“All credit to him that he came back and tried to play. He ran his guts out for a couple of games but it really affected his preparations for the following week so we decided that getting it fixed now will give him the best chance of coming back and making an impact later in the season.”
Robinson is determined to play a role for Perth later in their campaign and is aiming to return to action by mid December.
"There is nothing I like more than being out on the field and helping Perth Glory get results and I’ll do everything I can to be out there with the lads as soon as I can,” Robinson said.
“It’s never nice to be injured but you can’t get down about it.
"I’m just concentrating now on having the surgery and then getting stuck into the recovery to give myself the best opportunity of playing sooner rather than later.”
