BRANKO Culina will drum home the message to his Newcastle Jets players that his son's team's impressive start to A-League life does not make them world-beaters.
Culina senior admits his son has done even better than he thought at such an early stage in his A-League career but Gold Coast should not be viewed as a team that cannot be stopped.
Culina junior has stood out with his passing range, finishing and ability to find time on the ball in the three matches so far and his dad is out to deny him the luxury of space.
The Jets boss told the Newcastle Herald: "What we need to do is make sure we apply enough pressure on those players to ensure they do not get as much of the ball as they have in the first three rounds.
"We have to stop players like Jason, Shane Smeltz and Joel Porter getting on the ball."
The Jets go into the match as outsiders with the bookmakers. One leading organisation has the home side priced at $3.50 with Gold Coast at $2. The draw is $3.35.
"They have played well but they are not world-beaters," said Culina.
