GOLD Coast United have hailed the capture of Adam Griffiths from Newcastle Jets ahead of next season and said he will be a vital part of the team.
Jets defender Griffiths, 29, has agreed a three-year deal with United and will lead Miron Bleiberg’s defensive unit when the club enters the A-League next season.
Gold Coast United CEO Clive Mensink said Griffiths’ pedigree and ability to play in a number of positions made him stand out on the club’s list of transfer targets.
“We are very much looking forward to welcoming Adam to Gold Coast United next season,” said Mensink.
"He’s versatile, experienced and a good leader – he will be a top player for us and his skills and talents will be appreciated at our club
Mensink added: “He will be a good fit in our squad and is indicative of the type of player we are looking to bring in.
"I’m sure our other players will welcome and respect his ability. As a Socceroo he adds international flavour and I’ve been a long-term fan of the way he plays the game.
"I’m sure he will enjoy playing for us as well as making the most of living in a wonderful place like the Gold Coast.”
With Head Coach Miron Bleiberg in Brazil on a scouting mission, Mensink said United fans could expect further announcements on the playing roster in the very near future.
He added: “We are delighted with the way the squad is coming together and I’m sure when we have our full roster on deck our fans will know we intend to be very competitive.
"We hope to be in a position to reveal more names very soon.”
