The round six meeting between the two sides will now be held at Hindmarsh Stadium instead of Skilled Park, with Gold Coast effectively 'selling' that Friday night game in a manner similar to what AFL and NRL clubs have done in the past.

Mensink said the decision to do so made financial sense, given the club will bear the cost of heavy subsidies from its new ticketing schemes.

He also revealed Gold Coast will receive a cut of the gate from the Adelaide match.

"There's an arrangement in place and it's all confidential, but we'd be receiving something," Mensick said.

"With the initiatives we've come out with - the $20 and $5 ticket prices - we thought to take the strain off the financial cost, we'd move one home game to Adelaide.

"It was an opportunity that came up and we decided to be smart about it. Friday nights aren't popular here.

"We know Adelaide have a very preferential deal with their stadium and not too many clubs are in that same position."

United have also avoided another unfavourable home fixture - the dreaded Wednesday night match - by switching their regional round game.

They will now play Melbourne Victory - most likely in Tasmania - on February 1, and will play host to Sydney FC on November 11 as a result.

"We now get an opportunity to see Brett Emerton and I think that's going to work out for everyone," Mensink said.

"We all know Wednesday night is not a very good fixture to have from a crowd perspective so we decided to swap those around and move Sydney back here."

All up, that means that Gold Coast United will now have 12 matches at Skilled Park instead of 13, and Mensink said with they are hoping for an average crowd of around 7,000 to attend each of them.

"We're looking to double what we had from last year for sure, and we'll work from there," Mensink said.

"It's a tough market on the Gold Coast. There's a lot of distractions with the beach and theme parks and that but at the end of the day we've got to work within the environment that we're in.

"We've got to put the product on the park. We've got a great team this season - a lot of changes, yes, but the feeling is here. You can see it.

"The boys are keen to get going and there's no reason why we can't make the finals again."
