EXCLUSIVE: Gold Coast Galaxy are tantalizingly close to being Australia's newest A-League club – but face a race against time to be ready for next season.
“If we get the go-ahead after this particular week, I think we'll have time. If the FFA for whatever reason extends it, every week we lose it makes it more difficult,” Fred Taplin, bid head, told au.fourfourtwo.com.
“But I don't want it to sound like there's any blame at all. It's a fairly big thing to be granted an A-League license and the FFA has a duty to make sure that anyone who takes up the franchise is going to be sufficiently financially sound to continue for the full five years of the franchise.”
This week the final pieces of information will be sent to the FFA and perhaps both parties will meet again later in the week.
Taplin concedes it's been a drawn out ordeal: “It's been a very time consuming process and yes I suppose one can say it's been a difficult process.
“We can only produce exactly what they're asking for. Which is our intention. We hope it's the last time we have to supply information.”
Meanwhile, the stadium deal at Robina may be signed off sooner rather than later with Galaxy representatives meeting with stadium officials on Monday.
And shirt and short sponsors are ready to sign up - but without the go-ahead, all deals are on hold.
“The FFA is acting with the best will and intention and they would dearly love to have us playing this year,” added Taplin.
“So there's goodwill on both sides and optimism is high that we'll get there.
