Hernan Dario Gomez has tendered his resignation as coach of Colombia, the Colombian football federation have confirmed.
The announcement comes in the wake of an alleged incident involving Gomez in a Bogota bar this weekend, for which the 55-year-old Gomez issued a public apology yesterday.
A statement on the Federacion Colombiana de Futbol website, www.colfutbol.org, today read: "This morning, after deep personal reflection, looking for the best interests of the country, the Colombian national team, the federation and the sponsors and accepting the consequences of his acts, Hernan Dario Gomez Jaramillo presented his resignation as coach of the national team.
"The Colombian federation wishes to reiterate and be emphatic that it deplores and rejects any act of violence by officials, players or coaches."
The federation announced they have called a board meeting, which will be held within the next 10 days.
