EXCLUSIVE: Former Melbourne Heart favourite Alex Terra has signed a lucrative one-year deal with Daejeon Citizen but the striker says a return to Australia could still happen down the track.
Terra, 29, is set to play his first game for his new club next week after recently arriving in Korea with his Brazilian-based Australian agent Steve Panopoulos.
Daejeon also feature Brazilian central defender Alesandro and Belgian striker Kevin Oris on their roster.
"I hope to have a strong season, score a lot of goals, and help the team qualify for the top eight,” Terra told au.fourfourtwo.com from South Korea on Saturday.
The K-League outfit is believed to have shown a great deal of interest in Terra since his A-League exit at the end of last season.
"I signed for Daejeon because the head coach Yoo Sang-Chul showed so much interest, and made such a big effort I felt it was the right environment to come into,” said the former Fluminense star who parted ways with Melbourne Heart in April.
“Given that he is a young coach and recently was a star with the national team also interested me," he said.
The Brazilian-born livewire was one of a number of players released by the red and whites at the end of last season.
Terra is well remembered as an explosive forward with a penchant for spectacular goals.
He earned his place in A-League history with a sublime piece of individual skill against Glory in Perth.
He said the Australian league made an impression on him.
"My memories of playing for the Heart are all very fond,” he said.
“From the players, the coaching staff and especially the fans who would always sing a song for me in recognition of my goal to win the first Melbourne derby.
“That first derby win and also my overhead kick goal against Perth are my greatest memories.
“But right now I’m focused on doing well here and establishing myself in the K-League which is a strong competition.
"But if an opportunity presented itself to come back to the A-League one day, I would definitely consider it."
Terra played 44 times for Melbourne Heart after signing in 2010, scoring seven goals in his two seasons. Injury blighted his time at the club but he impressed many with his pace and precision finishing.
He joins a growing band of ex-A-League stars playing in the K-League, including Matt Simon, Robbie Cornthwaite and Matt McKay.
