JOHN Hutchinson had more than a goalless draw on his mind as he dashed away from Leichhardt Oval after learning his wife had gone into labour earlier than expected.
The Central Coast Mariners midfielder had barely reached the dressing room after the final whistle when the news came through that he was poised to become a dad for the first time.
As Hutchinson headed off to hospital, his coach was left to wish the family well and joked that the player had been excused from the post-match recovery session.
Lawrie McKinna said: "His wife's actually about three weeks early and wasn't due until about the 28th. He's straight up the road and hopefully it's a short labour!
"It's probably good timing as we haven't gone to Canberra yet. We'll look after him and he can come down there later maybe.
"We wish him all the best and being a father for the first time is a big thing. A first clean sheet as well, it's a big night for Hutch."
