Topor-Stanley, currently destined for Newcastle Jets,  is thought to have played in a behind closed doors friendly for the Whites against Rochdale with Leeds boss Simon Grayson having confirmed that one of the players he'd looked at in the match was 'an Australian'.

Grayson told Leeds' official website: "Keith has left Sheffield United and trained with us for the last week. I played with Keith at Blackburn. and when you get the chance to look at players like that, you do it.

"It's promising that a Northern Ireland international wants to try and play for the club.

"I also looked at an Australian defender who played in the game against Rochdale. We're always looking and we'll make decisions as and when."

Gillespie has been linked with the Mariners on more than one occasion but as recently as last week, coach Lawrie McKinna said he understood the player had left Sheffield but certainly hadn't touched down on the Central Coast.
