The Colombian defender underwent tests on Wednesday after hurting his left knee in Tuesday's Champions League defeat at Liverpool.

The Nerazzurri later confirmed that the player will need to undergo surgery to rectify the problem.

"The exams done on the player have shown damage to the player's anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee," a club statement said.

"Cordoba will need to undergo an arthroscopy."

The 31-year-old will miss the second leg of the last-16 tie against the Reds at the San Siro on March 11, and no date has been set for his comeback.
