EXCLUSIVE: Newcastle Jets CEO John Tsatsimas is confident key figures at the club will share Michael Bridges’ faith in the club’s future and commit to a new deal.
Ljubo Milicevic and Fabio Vignaroli are among those debating whether to stay with Newcastle and Tsatsimas said early discussions with the pair have been 'encouraging'.
While Bridges was not signed up as a way of encouraging other players to put pen to paper, the club is hoping his infectious enthusiasm rubs off.
Bridges has spoken warmly of his desire to help the Jets enjoy success and Tsatsimas cannot speak highly enough of the former Leeds United man.
"Michael and Newcastle just seem to be the perfect fit," Tsatsimas told au.fourfourtwo.com today.
"His impact has been more profound than simply performances on the pitch. He is a gentleman with no airs and graces and his decision to commit is a ringing endorsement for Newcastle Jets.
"Some imports take time to adapt, to adjust to the football, to the lifestyle and the like. For Michael, the transition has been seamless."
As for those still in talks with the club, Tsatsimas is hopeful while taking nothing for granted.
"We have spoken to Ljubo's representatives and talks have been very encouraging," he said. "
We have also had preliminary talks with Fabio and Remo Nogarotto (director of football) is coming back from Europe to sit down and talk further with Fabio."
Tsatsimas hopes the renewed spirit in the dressing room could be a factor in players deciding to remain.
"The boys get on like a house on fire and when you have that kind of spirit, it plays a big part in helping you get to where you want to go," he said. "The ingredients are there for something special."
Striker Joel Griffiths's situation is still in limbo however. Beijing Guoan have so far failed to come up with the money for a permanent transfer and as it stands, Griffiths will see out the A-League season with the Jets.
Tsatsimas added: "At this point in time Joel will be with us in January, he is a contracted player. But who knows what the future holds?
"The immediate focus is the next match (Gold Coast United). Hopefully Branko will be the happier Culina at full time."
