EXCLUSIVE: Newcastle Jets are running the rule over former Melbourne Victory defender Daniel Piorkowski - but no deal's been done yet.

The 24-year-old has joined Gary van Egmond’s squad for training this week but it is too early to say whether a permanent deal will be forthcoming.
It is more an opportunity for player and club to assess each other at this stage and there is the question of being able to fit Piorkowski under the salary cap.
Piorkowski headed for England at the end of last season and had trial spells with both Derby County and Walsall before returning Down Under.
He had endured a terrible time with injuries at Victory but was back to fitness by the time he decided to move on at the end of the last campaign.
Speaking at the time of his departure, he said: “It’s time to move on, have a crack overseas and fulfil a dream that’s been strong for me, so we’ll see what works out.
“I want to explore playing in Europe and not die wondering.”
Should agreement be reached then it would offer van Egmond further defensive cover and add extra competition for the likes of skipper Jade North.
Piorkowski is expected to remain with the club for at least another week as the Jets begin the build up to their next A-League fixture against Sydney FC.
