ITALIAN import Marcello Fiorentini will make his debut for the Jets when Newcastle takes on the Gold Coast at Skilled Stadium on Wednesday night.
Fiorentini was signed by the Newcastle club in the off-season but has yet to be utilised by Jets coach Branko Culina.
But with winger Marko Jesic away on duty with the Olyroos and injuries to defender Tarek Elrich and striker Jeremy Brockie, Fiorentini has received his call-up to the Jets squad for Wednesday night's fixture.
"I am happy to finally be selected in the team," Fiorentini said on Tuesday.
"I can't wait to play tomorrow night. Let's see what happens against the Gold Coast, I very much want to make an impression."
The 30-year-old Italian, who has played most of his career in the Italian Serie C and D leagues, impressed in his first start for the Newcastle club when he played half a game with the Jets' National Youth League team in last Saturday's 4-1 win over the AIS at Adamstown Oval.
Fiorentini looked at ease in the controlling midfielder's role reading the play well in defence and showing good vision to launch a number of attacks for the Jets youth team.
He will most likely slot into the defensive midfielder role against the Gold Coast with Ruben Zadkovich or Ben Kantarovski taking over for Elrich in defence.
Meanwhile, Zadkovich has spoken of the boost the team received after scoring their first win of the season after last Friday night's comprehensive 2-0 win over Perth at EnergyAustralia Stadium.
"We will go straight into the (Gold Coast) game with a lot of confidence like we have with every other week," he said.
"The boys have stuck together through some tough times and we will be looking forward to that match."
