The match was played in frenetic fashion from the opening whistle with both sides creating goal-scoring opportunities in an end-to-end spectacle.

Jets midfielder Ruben Zadkovich went closest to scoring in the first half when he unleashed a left-footed screamer from 35 yards out in the just the eighth minute of the match that beat Victory goalkeeper Michael Petkovic only to crash into the crossbar.

Down the other end Carlos Hernandez shot wide from long range after being afforded too much space before fellow Costa Rican Marvin Angulo unleashed a low drive from outside the area which forced Jets custodian Ben Kennedy into a diving save that saw the sides head to half-time break locked at 0-0.

Melbourne looked most likely after the break as they managed to get in behind the Jets defence but they lacked the clinical finish to snatch the lead.

Hernandez spurned two golden opportunities when gifted the ball on the edge of the area only to miss the target both times, Angulo and Robbie Kruse also fired wide while Tom Pondlejak saw his looping header saved by Kennedy.

The Victory had their best chance in the 71st minute when Brazilian import Ricardinho was put through on goal. The pacy striker streaked into the penalty box and fired a low shot from 15 yards only to see Kennedy produce a fine diving save from point-blank range.

Both sides made changes with the Jets bringing on Sasho Petrovski , Marcello Fiorentini and Adam D'Apuzzo for Labinot Haliti, Zhang Shou and Wehrman while the Victory replaced Ricardinho, Sukha and Kruse with Evan Berger, Luke Pilkington and Geoff Kellaway.

Petrovski's presence sparked the Jets as he created a couple of half chances up front for the home side without being able to convert while Pilkington almost grabbed a late winner for the visitors but his shot from the edge of the area of the box squirted across the face of goal to see the sides share the points.
