NEWCASTLE Jets have signed former North Queensland Fury goalkeeper Paul Henderson until August 27 as an injury replacement for Neil Young.
As expected, the 34-year-old shot stopper will be part of the squad to take on Melbourne Heart in Morwell on Thursday.
He has impressed during his trial at the Jets after spending time at NSW Premier League side Sydney Olympic after leaving Fury.
Jets CEO John Tsatsimas said he was happy with the short-term signing.
"Certainly bringing in a goalkeeper of Paul's experience is a fantastic thing for the club," Tsatsimas said.
"It's not always easy to source high quality recruits as injury replacement players just prior to the season starting, but we've been very fortunate to secure Paul's services in Neil's absence."
Meanwhile, Young will undergo his final stage of surgery on July 20 as he continues his comeback from complications surrounding a broken nose suffered in a collision with Gold Coast united striker Shane Smeltz in round 22 last season.
Young has suffered significant weight loss as he prepares for a remarkable recovery, but the club will continue to provide its support.
Tsatsimas added: "Generally speaking there is nothing more important than a person's health and wellbeing, so we wish him a smooth, speedy recovery and all the very best over the coming weeks."
