NEWCASTLE Jets today signed former England star Francis Jeffers for a 10 match stint as guest player, with five of those being at home at EnergyAustralia Stadium in Newcastle.
Jeffers - dubbed the Fox In The Box - has a wealth of English Premier League experience having played with such prestigious clubs as Everton (49 appearances), Arsenal (22) and Sheffield Wednesday (54).
He also played for England against Australia in 2003, scoring a goal for the English when beaten by the Socceroos in a 3-1 defeat at Upton Park, London.
A renowned goal scorer, Jeffers has scored over 30 goals in the English Premier League. He was also the all time leading scorer for England U21s with 13 goals, a record he shares with Alan Shearer.
Newcastle Jets now hope Jeffers will be able to find that old form - and find the back of the net for them to end their recent barren spell in front of goal.
Executive Chairman Ken Edwards spoke of his joy at snaring the goal poacher once hailed as England's future.
"Francis is a player of immense talent who has graced the English Premier league with success," said Edwards.
"He comes to the Jets at a time when he is on the right side of thirty and hungry to showcase his abilities on the Hyundai A-League stage.
"We are excited about the prospect of seeing Francis forming a focal point of our attack and exploiting the goal-scoring opportunities that may come his way."
Jeffers is also expected to make a guest appearance on Fox Sports Matchday Saturday this weekend.
