LOCAL product Jobe Wheelhouse has signed a new contract with Newcastle Jets which will see him remain at the Hunter Valley club for another two seasons.
The 25-year-old defensive midfielder, who has been at the Jets since 2003, is the latest product from Northern New South Wales to sign a new deal at Newcastle.
Wheelhouse, who is six games short of a century for the Jets, had been tabled a one-year deal by the Jets in February, but is delighted to have sealed a two-year contract.
“I am really happy to have this locked away and know that for the next two seasons I am going to be playing my part in this exciting time for the Jets,” Wheelhouse said.
“Being from Newcastle, it is a great honour to be able to represent my City at the highest level.”
Tinkler Sports Group chief executive officer Troy Palmer said Wheelhouse's re-signing was an indication of the club's focus on local talent.
“Jobe was an important signing for us. Not only is he a Newcastle Junior, he is a very talented footballer,” Palmer said.
“We want to see the Jets fielding as many talented juniors as possible”
“The club has been strong in our recent re-signings and our new acquisitions, and we expect this to continue as we build an exciting football club for the Newcastle Community.”
Other Northern NSW products on the Jets roster include Ben Kennedy, Ben Kantarovski, Taylor Regan, Sam Gallaway and James Virgili.
