Beckham and his LA Galaxy colleagues will face the Jets next month but the Hunter outfit would love him to pull on a Newcastle shirt at some stage.

They don't seem to think it's likely but it won't stop them from asking the question.

Jets executive chairman Ken Edwards said the club wasn't confident of success but if there was any glimmer of opportunity then they would go for it.

''However, I doubt, from what I know of his commitments going forward for this season, if it would be possible," Edwards told the Newcastle Herald.

''While I think it is highly unlikely, it is certainly a question we will ask at some time over the next few weeks.''

The club also confirmed that former England, Everton and Arsenal striker Francis Jeffers is heading to the Hunter for a trial.
