The forward has been a big hit at the club and the Jets are anxious to tie him down to a fresh deal, although the situation is somewhat confusing with Joel Griffiths currently  pencilled in for marquee status.

That would change should Griffiths make a permanent switch to Chinese side Beijing Guoan. That has yet to be resolved and Newcastle are understood to be pushing for a decision as early as possible.

However Griffiths can still can come back from China to rejoin the Jets with Vignaroli as marquee providing the outstanding portion of Joel's wages for the remainder of the season can be made to fit under the salary cap.

The Jets are expected to face competition for Vignaroli's services but they will be doing all they can to persuade him to extend his stay in the Hunter.

Vignaroli has returned to Europe for a brief break ahead of the resumption of training in early June. Boss Gary van Egmond is hoping a deal can be struck over the next couple of weeks.

He told the Herald: "Everyone has warmed to Fabio and his effectiveness on the football pitch. We know exactly what we are going to get from Fabio. I'm hopeful it will work out, fingers crossed."

It seems that Vignaroli's efforts on the pitch are not the sole reason the Jets have been impressed. They like the man as much as the footballer.

Jets director of football Remo Nogarotto said: "Not only is he a quality footballer, but I think anyone inside our club would attest to the fact that the lad is a quality person and brings a sense of professionalism and calm to the dressing room, which is so critical to the coach and is often a key to success."
