Victory play Gold Coast United tomorrow night in Tasmania then back up on Saturday for the Melbourne derby against Heart.

Sitting four points from the six, those points on offer this week are vital for Victory's ambitions to be part of the finals, and Magilton knows it.

"We can't get away from it. It's a big week. But every time Melbourne come to town it's always a big game, so there's a certain amount of pressure," he told the waiting media at Launceston airport.

"But being a Melbourne Victory manager, being a Melbourne Victory player, you've got to be able to handle that and withstand whatever Gold Coast throw at us and come out with the qualities I know we have in the team."

Victory are set to train on the Aurora Stadium pitch later today before a reception with local dignitaries at the venue.

And with the pitch in good nick, Magilton was confident of a good spectacle for the expected crowd of 8-10,000 fans.

"There'll be no worries about us getting the ball down and playing," he said when told the pitch was in good shape.

Gold Coast United trained on the pitch earlier in the day with coach Miron Bleiberg putting his players through a short, sharp session focusing on fast break football.

Short-term replacement Chris O'Connor is set to take his place in the United goals for the game following the injury to Tasmanian-born keeper Jerrad Tyson.

Meanwhile Bleiberg made some tongue in cheek comments that were picked up by the local media.

"You Tasmanians don't like Victorians so much, that's my guess so you might as well support Gold Coast," he said. "We are from a small town, you are from a small town, so that's a second reason.

"And the third reason is the Gold Coast coach is much nicer than the Victory coach!"

When asked to respond, Magilton laughed it off: "Did he? Well, when I meet him later tonight I'll ask him to quantify his comments."
