JOEL Griffiths is open to the idea of a return to a Newcastle Jets club under new ownership - but he doesn't see it happening any time soon.
Griffiths's exit from the Hunter for Beijing Guoan turned into a bitter messy affair in a deal which took place under former owner Con Constantine.
But with the club looking to make a fresh start and coach Branko Culina expected to be given assistance from new owner Nathan Tinkler, Griffiths is keeping all his options open - with one option a possible guest stint.
However, with his contract in China due to run until next November, an imminent switch looks unlikely.
"I would love to come back for a stint but it would not be up to me, it would be up to Beijing," Griffiths told the Newcastle Herald.
"Personally I couldn't see it happening until I finish after next year but funnier things have happened.
"It's up to Newcastle to talk to Beijing. If Beijing came to me and say what do you think, then I would put my hand up and say, yes."
The Jets have seen their striking options reduced with an injury to skipper Michael Bridges.
