The Jets have called a midday press conference where the Johnny Warren Medal-winner is likely to put pen to paper.

A $1m four-year deal is thought to have been enough to convince Griffiths to remain with the club, that and several heart-to-hearts with coach Gary van Egmond.

The fact that van Egmond has committed himself to the club for the next three years has also sent out a positive message to the player.

Griffiths' future has been the subject of considerable speculation for some time and only last week it was thought a deal was close, only for nothing to materialise.

The former Leeds United man was impressed with van Egmond's late forays into the transfer market ahead of the new season, after initial concerns at seeing so many of last season's championship-winning side leave the club.

Griffiths made it clear recently that he didn't want speculation over his future dragging on well into the season as it would prove an unwanted distraction.

Griffiths is also hungry to further his international career and force his way into Pim Verbeek's plans.

He told au.fourfourtwo.com recently: "It’s all very well having one good season but I’m sure Pim’s asking himself if I can do it again. I’m sure he wants me to do it again and I believe I can do it again.

“I just want to do well and really give Pim a headache when it comes to selection.”

If, as expected, Joel does extend his stay, the Jets will be hoping that will be a huge plus in their attempts to convince brother Adam to remain at EnergyAustralia Stadium.
