One nil up, Queensland skipper Stuart McLaren was red-carded in the 85th minute. From the resultant free kick, Joel Griffiths brilliantly scored an equaliser with a curling shot that Liam Reddy had no chance of saving.

With the Jets' tails up, Griffiths was put through but was bundled out by the Roar defence and no penalty was given by referee Simon Pryzdac.

And Brazilian Denni could've won it for Newcastle. With just two minutes left, the little playmaker was played through in the box from the flanks and with no pressure on him he shot weakly and Reddy saved easily.

However, things had looked bleak for the Jets after the visitors took the lead on 70 minutes. It was a classic sucker punch.

The Jets were caught on the break after losing possession, and the speedy Lynch was played through. The Scottish forward attacked the final defender then cut inside and unselfishly layed the ball off to the free Reinaldo.

The Brazilian coolly slotted under Ante Covic and silenced the 13,144 fans.

Things didn't look good as the Jets up to that point had lacked a cutting edge.
It had been an even contest that looked like swinging in favour of the home side until Reinaldo stunned the home side.

Prior to the goal, the Jets were beginning to impose themselves on a game that struggled to come to life.

Denni, the Brazilian import, began to see more of the ball in the second half as Queensland's midfield began to give the Braziliana little more room.

Griffiths was everywhere and in fact had the two best chances in a dour first half. He burst through the defence but stumbled at a vital time.

And on the 40th minute, he headed over after Mark Bridge had crossed wide on the left.

Aside from a few long range efforts from both sides, neither looked like breaking the deadlock in the first half. But the game sprang to life late on leaving the good crowd with something to cheer about.

Jets hero Joel Griffiths said he was delighted with his sensational set-pice goal.

“I just hit it and it went in, thank god!” he said.“You always want to put the ball there.

"Thank god I hit it nice and we got away with a draw but it could've been much worse.”

But he was admitted he was "very disappointed" not to take all three points from the game.

"We had a game plan to come here and make sure teams realise it's a fortress," he said. "I don't think we played the best we could tonight."

He added: "We've still got Brazilians that have to gel with other players and the language barrier is always going to be a bit difficult.

"But I thought Denni played well and I thought our defence played well, but we just need to work on a few things."

FourFourTwo Says...
The sooner Mario Jardel can get on the park, the better for the Jets who looked light upfront. Denni is showing signs of improvement and will get even better when the big Brazilian comes in. For the Roar, they've put a difficult week behind them to show they've got some resilience about them this season.
