Matt Thompson's goal in the opening 12 minutes of the second half looked set to give the Jets three precious points but victory slipped from their grasp when United's Sasa Ognenovski headed home in stoppage-time.

It left supporters, players and coaching staff gutted but Jones attempted to look at the positives.

He said: "I thought we did more than enough to win the game, but I guess you could say that if we took our opportunities then we wouldn’t be in a position to concede a goal.

“The performance was magnificent in terms of work ethic, we worked harder than Adelaide. I thought we outrun and outworked them, and created enough opportunities to win the game, so it’s extremely disappointing that we didn’t win."

The draw leaves the Jets propping up the A-League alongside Perth Glory.
