United on Monday lodged an official complaint to FIFA over Madrid's pursuit of the Portugal winger.

But former Getafe boss Laudrup told AS: "Madrid would definitely be right to sign Ronaldo, there is no doubt about it."

Laudrup, who is a guest of the Danish Football Federation at Euro 2008, believes Ronaldo is worth the figure of 90 million euros being quoted in the Spanish press.

"Generally, what is cheap turns out to be expensive," he said.

"And Cristiano is more than just a footballer because he opens an enormous door of income for the club.

"Today him and Messi are the stars (in world football)... there is no Zidane."

Laudrup therefore understands why Real continue to push for the player's signature, but says they will have to be patient.

"I understand why Madrid are trying to sign him and why Manchester United will not let him go. This will go on for a while and won't be resolved even when the Euros are over," he said.

Press reports last week claimed Laudrup had agreed to join Greek side Panathinaikos, but the former Denmark forward says he is yet to decide where he will be coaching next season.

"I don't know, there is the Greece option, but I am in no hurry," he said.

"This year, with the Euro, there is more time to take decisions.

"A destination should not be chosen lightly, because if it is, you end up regretting it."
