SYDNEY FC coach Vitezslav Lavicka says Sunday's 1-1 draw with Gold Coast United was reminiscent of their whole season after again failing to score more than one goal.
The winless Sky Blues have only managed to score one goal per game in six of their past seven A-League matches and Lavicka was left to rue missed opportunities in Sunday's 1-1 draw.
"Our main problem this season is to score more than one goal in a game," he said.
"It's frustrating. We worked very hard today, we started the game very actively. Played very well in attack, aggressively and scored the early goal."
Returning Sky Blues striker Alex Brosque echoed Lavicka's sentiments.
"We dominated most of the game, played well, stuck to the gameplan, but I think we just didn't punish today," he said.
"We went up one-nil, had a couple of chances to make it two-nil and that's a big factor as to why we didn't win today."
Even after Gold Coast were reduced to ten men, the Sky Blues could not make any inroads leaving Brosque to label the result two points lost.
"Especially when they went down to ten men," he said. "We attacked and attacked, had chances but disappointed we couldn't get the goal.
"It's always hard when teams go down to ten men. They sat back and we pushed on, kept creating chances but we just could not put the ball in the back of the net and that's why we didn't get the points today. It's disappointing."
Sydney now face a busy schedule with a midweek game against North Queensland Fury coming up ahead of their Round 9 game at home to leaders Adelaide United.
Lavicka labelled the period 'very important' to their season as they search for their first win and hope to make ground on the top six who Sydney already trail by eight points.
"It's very important," Lavicka said. "We got maximum focus for this game, we didn't win, but we must keep the spirit.
"I have to say the players still work hard at training and on the game, but we just need sometimes more confidence. It will come with good results."
Brosque said the team was not feeling added pressure and insisted the win would come.
"I don't think there's anymore pressure than what we've been under the past couple of weeks," he said.
"The fact we played well today, created a lot of chances is a positive. We'll keep building on that.
"It's a step-up on our last couple of performances. We know it's only a matter of time before we get that win and we roll on from there."
Brosque also revealed he was reasonably happy with his return from injury.
"I'm happy for the 90 minutes, but I could've done a bit more, had a couple of chances myself," he said. "I'm guilty of missing a few, we've really got to be putting those away if we're to get points."
