SYDNEY FC coach Vitezslav Lavicka said he saw positives in the Sky Blues' performance despite going down 2-1 to Wellington Phoenix in the New Zealand capital on Saturday.
The Sky Blues remain rooted to the bottom of the A-League ladder with two points from six games, but Lavicka saw improvements.
"I was pretty happy because when I compared it to our last performance against Adelaide we improved," he said.
"In the first half we were defensively solid and were compact. We created a couple of chances.
"The second half we conceded the penalty early but we equalised and that's positive because the team has shown good character.
"I have to say the Phoenix's second goal was brilliant."
Wellington boss Ricki Herbert, who had seen his side collect just four points from their first four games, was feeling upbeat.
"I thought we were really good tonight. I think we've got to back what this team is about," said a delighted Herbert.
"There was just good energy. Paul (Ifill) and Leo (Bertos) went the journey tonight that they haven't done or haven't been able to do.
"There were a few players who put their hands up tonight and proved a few critics wrong, which was good."
Wellington's next match is away to Melbourne Victory in midweek, while Sydney FC have a two-week break before they host Gold Coast United.
