The burly defender has been banned from training all week after the brekky-gate incident following the Adelaide game last Friday.

He and Archie Thompson were suspended after reportedly going out on the town and then sleeping in and missing breakfast.

Thompson was this week allowed back into training and reinstated to the team following a public apology for the breach of team rules and his outburst for calling the suspension 'petty' and 'laughable'.

But Ljubo has been left out in the cold in the deal.

He was already out of favour with parts of the club following a spat with skipper Kevin Muscat.

Now it is understood the club's leadership group - which includes Muscat - has recommended Victory tear up his contract and release the player.

Milicevic however is said to want to stay and has called in the players' union to try to broker a deal.

Professional Footballers' Association chief executive Brendan Schwab told Fox Sports that talks were continuing between all parties.

They want a deal which will allow Ljubo to see out the remaining 18 months of his contract.

He added: “Clearly we would have preferred a resolution to have been reached sooner.

“We are hopeful of a resolution that will see a player of Ljubo's calibre remain a part of the A-League.

“He is very committed to the group. He would be more than willing to participate in the same process Archie Thompson was willing to participate in following the weekend's events.”

Milicevic was simply down as "omitted" when the squad for this weekend's game was announced last night.

The club has included Muscat in the team in the hope he can shake off his kneee injury in time for the game on Sunday.

The squad also includes Grant Brebner (returning from suspension) and Leigh Broxham (returning from injury).

Archie Thompson returned to training yesterday and has also been included to face the A-League’s bottom placed side, which has not won a league match in over 12 months.

However, Glory’s recent form has defied its ladder position, securing impressive draws against Adelaide and Sydney FC in its last two outings.

Lining up for Glory will be former Victory striker James Robinson, whose injury time strike against Adelaide United in the Major Semi Final last season ensured Melbourne progressed to the Grand Final.

Robinson scored for Glory against Sydney last week and will be eager to repeat his efforts against his former club.

Off the pitch, Melbourne Victory Muscateer members who are spotted wearing their Victory tattoos at any home game this season can win a Victory Skill Ball signed by Kevin Muscat.

Riversdale Junior Soccer Club is particularly looking forward to the match as they are one of the lucky recipients of the Hyundai Goals for Grassroots competition.

For every goal scored by Victory, Riversdale will receive $1000 (maximum value of $5000). If Victory does not score, then they are still guaranteed to win $1000.
