EXCLUSIVE: Fresh from a scathing attack on Melbourne Heart, former Melbourne Victory Chairman Geoff Lord has given a serve to the current Victory board.
Lord, who stepped down earlier this year after six years as Melbourne Victory Chairman to be replaced by board member Anthony Di Pietro, believes a lack of direction at board level is affecting team performances.
“I think there’s a great deal of indecision and uncertainty about the way they’re trying to head,” he told au.foufourtwo.com
“Too many different views. And I don’t think that’s helping the club and that’s reflecting a little bit on the way they’re playing on the field.”
Victory’s campaign has yet to take off with the club drawing again on the weekend – their sixth so far – with the side in eighth spot on the ladder.
The new board put a broom through the football department in the off-season with a new coaching team.
The club also parted company with Francis Awaritefe last month, who'd took on the newly created role of director of football in June.
Lord said too many changes have been disruptive.
“In the end one thing you need at any sporting club - and in business - is stability," he said. “And they’re a bit all over the place.
"But they’ll fix it hopefully...”
On Sunday, Lord weighed back into the debate about Melbourne Heart suggesting the club should’ve been located well away from the CBC in Geelong or Casey.
His comments caused much heated debate on the forums and will add another layer to the rivalry ahead of the December 23 Melbourne derby.
Meanwhile, Lord said he’s like to see Victory play a one-off game at the new South Melbourne FC Lakeside stadium.
Speaking at the relaunch of the ground on Sunday, Lord said it’d be easy to organise an A-League game at the new boutique stadium.
He added: “I’m not calling the shots at the moment but I’d be happy to see Victory play a game here.
“As a one-off. I think it’d be a good thing to do.”
*In other news, it’s believed former national youth coach Jan Versleijen has taken over as new coach at Henan Jianye in the Chinese Super League.
