Maycon (full name  Maycon Carvalho Inez) was unveiled today at Heart’s training facility and Terra, Heart’s other Brazilian striker, said he was looking forward to playing alongside the club’s latest signing.

And with Fred, the former Melbourne Victory talisman, arriving next week after his last game in the US this week, Heart will have a distinctly Brazilian feel for their second season in the competition.

Maycon, who doesn’t speak English, is known to be a striker who works hard for the team and it’s this factor that helped swayed Heart coach John van’t Schip to sign the player.

Asked what he needed to do to become a hero in the red and white and Terra was keen to share his excitement at the signing.

“First of all he must understand all the strategy of the game, train hard and understand the Australian football which is different to Brazilian,” Terra said through an interpreter.

“It’s a stronger, more physical game [than Brazil]. So he must train hard and get to know how the team plays and get used to the tactics.

“It’s good he has arrived early as he can get used to the team and the training."

It’s understood Maycon’s partner will also join him in Melbourne although the player himself said the cold weather in Melbourne took some getting used to.

“I’m sure he will do well in this league and I’ll be there to support him,” added Terra. “And I’m sure he’ll be there to support me and I’m sure he will be a total success here in Melbourne.”

The 24-year-old has joined Heart on a one-year deal and becomes the Club’s fifth signing this off-season following the acquisition of fellow Brazilian Fred, David Williams, Mate Dugandzic and Curtis Good.

Having featured for Nova Iguacu during the recently completed Rio de Janeiro State Championship, widely regarded as one of the strongest competitions in Brazil, Maycon arrives at Heart on the back of a strong season.

Scoring six times throughout the campaign, including against giants Vasco de Gama, Maycon helped guide his side to a mid-table finish behind the likes of Ronaldinho’s Flamengo, Fluminense and Botafogo.

Maycon, whose hero growing up was Romario, added through an interpreter. “Today was a great day of training. I got to know my team-mates and I’m also very happy to be here.”

“I had a chat with my family and decided it was important for me to play abroad and Australia seemed like a great place to go,” he said

And he believes getting used to the game in this country won’t be too difficult.

“I watched a few matches and the style of football is very similar to mine,” added Maycon."Training is always very important to me. Each training session is as important as a match.

"And a match is almost like a battle. If I'm in the field I'm gonna do my best and give everything I got."
