The most hyped and eagerly anticipated fixture of round one is almost here and McKay wants the talking to stop and the action to start.

"With the personalities involved and obviously our former coach (Bleiberg) being there, it's going to be interesting," McKay told au.fourfourtwo.com. "Hopefully our supporters will pack the stadium, generate a fantastic Suncorp atmosphere and see us win.

"This first game is huge. It is an historic occasion and we want to come out on top for sure.

"I think it is great for football in Queensland. Football in this state is massive and I think it's great that the first A-League expansion has seen two Queensland teams come into the competition. Both Gold Coast and North Queensland have recruited well."

McKay is confident the game will be an enjoyable spectacle for the supporters yet it might be a slightly uncomfortable following week for several members of the Roar side should Frank Farina's men triumph.

"Half our team lives on the Gold Coast so that should be interesting," said McKay. "Everyone is looking forward to the game now, we just want to get out there and play. Let's hope it is a good quality fixture."

His only disappointment is that fellow midfield partner in crime Massimo Murdocca will be a spectator through injury but he has faith that others will step up to the plate. .

He added: "Massimo is getting very good on the PlayStation as he recovers from his injury. Seriously, it's disappointing because he is such an important player for us with the engine he has. We have a good midfield connection.

"Hopefully we can get him back as quickly as possible. There's talk it could be 12 weeks so if we were able to get him for half a season then that would be superb.

"Him missing out gives others a chance though and hopefully they'll make the most of it."
