Initial talks failed between the club and player over a new deal but McKinna hopes the matter can be resolved soon.

Petrovski grabbed the Mariners' last-gasp equaliser in the draw at Perth Glory last weekend for his fifth goal of the campaign.

McKinna told au.fourfourtwo.com: "We'll sit down again with Sash and look to get it sorted.

"He's been good for us during his time here and I think this year is the best that he's played.

"His workrate has been fantastic. We really needed a goal at Perth late in the match and he's been Johnny on the spot again and tucked it away."

While Petrovski has yet to put pen to paper, McKinna is expecting to complete a deal to extend Andrew Clark's stay at Bluetongue Stadium.

As well as providing experience on the pitch in a defensive role, Clark also serves as the club's strength and conditioning coach.

He is seen as a crucial member of the set-up at the Gosford club, renowned for his expertise and study of sports science.

McKinna said: "Clarky's is agreed on and I think the club is looking at a three-year deal.

"He has been and continues to be great value for this club, the fittest guy at the club."
