PERTH Glory have appointed experienced coach Wally McNally as assistant to boss Dave Mitchell.
McNally will complement an already strong coaching line-up at Perth with part time Assistant Coaches Robbie Dunn and Kenny Lowe continuing in their roles.
McNally comes to the club from Football West Premier League side ECU Joondalup and is a familiar face around Perth Glory after serving as a goal keeping coach for several seasons, a position he’ll continue to fill alongside his new duties.
“It’s great to have Willy on board, he has been around football all of his life and brings some great ideas and experience to the table,” Mitchell said.
“The team we have been able to assemble this season will greatly enhance the amount of time we can put into developing our squad and I’m sure it will benefit Perth Glory this season and into the future,” Mitchell added.
McNally was born in Northern Ireland and moved to Western Australia some 30 years ago. He enjoyed a long and fruitful playing career with various local Premier League clubs and represented the WA State Team on 19 occasions. He also played seven seasons with Adelaide City in the National Soccer League and was part of their championship winning side in 1986.
Currently in Indonesia as part of Glory’s pre-season tour, McNally said he is delighted to take on an increased role at the club this season and is looking forward to working closely with old sparring partner Dave Mitchell.
“I played against Mitch in the old days and I know he is a good lad and I’m very happy to be on board,” McNally said.
“I have been involved in football for a long time and to get an opportunity like this is a big thrill and I jumped at the chance to join the professional environment at the Glory.
“We are all determined to do our bit to make this a positive season for the club and are extremely optimistic about what we can achieve,” McNally added.
