Vargas, who was signed by Victory from Gully in 2006, said the club was a model of professionalism which in turn is good news for the A-League on the lookout for quality players at bargain prices.

Last weekend another product of the club, Manny Muscat, made his debut for Wellington Phoenix.

"Along with Melbourne, it's the most professional club I've been involved in. Through from the president Charles Farrugia, the way he conducts himself all the way down, the players are fully looked after with a full support staff," he told au.fourfourtwo.com.

"I've said it many times. It's up there with Melbourne Victory in the way it handles itself."

Joel Nikolic could be the next Gully man to step up and into the A-League. The intelligent striker has impressed many observers this season with his 10 goals in the VPL.

Last month, Melbourne Victory signed Gully starlets Diogo Ferreira and Aziz Behich to the club's inaugural youth team. Ferreira signed with FC Porto youth in 2005 from the Gully U/16s and the pair are expected to shine at Victory.

However, one Gully junior who may've slipped the A-League net is Theo Markelis. The highly rated 16-year-old was signed to Valencia from Gully last year.

A Victorian state junior, Markelis was the leading scorer with 11 at last year's national championships. He'll complete his final two years of schooling while over there and it's said the forward has a good chance of signing with the Spaniards when he turns 18.

In the VPL, Gully currently sits in pole position with one round left of the season proper. "It is a semi-professional club but they run it like a professional club. The fanbase is big too," added Vargas. "

"And they are producing a few players now going through to the A-League."
