After a rollercoaster few weeks of form slumps on the field, public outcry and gloomy headlines off it, Mensink appears a relieved man following Saturday night's 1-0 win over Sydney FC.

The three points was a much-needed shot in the arm for a team and club that now sits in third just two points off Sydney and one point behind Melbourne Victory.

"The guys are back on track... it's unfortunate there have been distractions admittedly but as a team they're getting it back together," Mensink told au.fourfourtwo.com. "There's always been that united feeling at the club."

The sky blues brought in a crowd of 5364 fans - more than double the paltry 2616 that fronted a week earlier after the crowd cap debacle.

But that figure could easily be topped at Gold Coast's next home game, given the club has until December 5 to promote that clash against Central Coast Mariners.

"We've got a long lead in time for the next home game and we'll be working through meetings with the FFA," Mensink said. "I'm sure there is the ability to do so but you have to take into consideration any conflicts on December 5.

"Hopefully we can capitalise on the great result the Mariners had against Melbourne and attract the fans to come to the stadium."

Gold Coast United staff are now working "in conjunction" with FFA staff who've taken over ticket pricing and marketing of the club for the remainder of the season.

And following this weekend's international break, United are set to welcome back both Shane Smeltz and Jason Culina ahead of two road trips (Adelaide then Melbourne) before returning home for their Mariners clash.

However Mensink remains somewhat baffled by the crowds issue, saying this season has been a steep learning curve in terms of understanding the marketplace.

"People are finicky [on the Gold Coast]," he said. "Whether they prefer to stay home or come to the game. Obviously the coverage on Fox Sports is excellent. We have to wait and see.

"We've been getting a lot of complaints from day one about the start times at 8pm. You'd hope 8pm would fit in but the Coast is 24/7 with retail and hospitality workers so we're working to find out our ideal, premium time for the fans.

"It's our first season... we've just got to learn and see what's the ideal time for us."
