Borgetti fired the ball home from five yards to ensure Mexico will face Guadeloupe on Thursday in Chicago.

Costa Rica played the entire second half with 10 men after Allan Aleman was dismissed in the 43rd minute for a second bookable offence.

Things got worse for Costa Rica when a further two players were given their marching orders in injury time.

Alvaro Saborio was red carded because of a hard foul after Borgetti's goal and in the final minute of the game Mario Camacho was also sent off.

Meanwhile, Guadeloupe shocked Honduras 2-1 to book their place in the semi-finals.

Richard Edward Socrier set-up veteran midfielder Jocelyn Angloma in the 17th minute and the 42-year-old made no mistake from 10 yards.

Four minutes later Socrier made it 2-0 for Guadeloupe when he fired home from close range before Carlos Pavon managed to grab a consolation in the 71st minute for Honduras.
