Miller ended his tenure at Brisbane Roar late last week and Gold Coast United coach Miron Bleibergswooped to secure his signature as United prepare for the business end of the A-League season.

The mercurial Miller joins the Gold Coast roster as a replacement player for Brazilian midfielder Robson, who is ruled out until the New Year with a knee injury.

A long time admirer of the talented Scot, Miron Bleiberg said the opportunity to sign Miller was unexpected and an "early Christmas present" for United.

"I was asked by Scott Higgins if Charlie could come and train with us to keep fit and we were happy to accommodate as that is the gentlemanly thing to do," Bleiberg said.

"We began to explore our options last Monday and we are very happy that we have finally arrived at a situation whereby Charlie was able to sign with us.

"I have felt for some weeks that we could do with another player in midfield who could add something to the team in terms of creating opportunities for our strikers and Charlie fits the bill very nicely.

"He will add something extra to what is already an exceptional midfield department.

"It's almost like an early Christmas present for us. I have admired his talent for some time and he is player who people will pay to come and watch."

Having watched Miller train with his squad, Bleiberg said he was impressed with what he saw and believes the Scot's mid-season switch to United could both revitalise the player and be a key signing for his side at the right time of the season.

"Charlie is grateful for the opportunity and we are grateful to have him," Bleiberg said.

"There is every possibility that we could be fortunate enough to see the very best of Charlie Miller in a Gold Coast United shirt. He can help set us up for our run to the finish line of the season."

Having originally replaced Brazilian midfielder Robson with Northern Irishman Wayne Buchanan, Bleiberg explained the mechanics of the deal that allowed Miller to join the club.

"Charlie could not sign as a guest player due to the regulations in place for that category of player," he said.

"On the day we learned of Charlie's availability we had just received approval for Wayne Buchanan to sign as injury cover for Robson.

"Wayne had 45 minutes with the Youth Team on Sunday and it was evident that he was a few weeks off being match fit for the Hyundai A-League. We spoke to Wayne, he understood the situation and was happy to agree to a mutual termination.

"Wayne will continue to train with the squad, so if another opportunity arises he will be in a better situation fitness-wise to come in and do a job for us."

Gold Coast United CEO Clive Mensink, thanked Football Federation Australia for their due diligence in approving Miller's registration in time for the clash with the Jets this Sunday.

"FFA have been very cooperative and understanding with us throughout this process and we thank them for their guidance," Mensink said.

"We are very happy to have signed Charlie and we're glad that his considerable talent will still be seen in the Hyundai A-League."

A happy Miller said he was excited about signing for Miron Bleiberg's side and hoped to make a significant contribution to United's title quest, starting this week against Newcastle Jets.

"It all happened very quickly. I was hoping just to train with Gold Coast to stay fit, so to have ended up signing with the club is an added bonus," he said.

"I'm really delighted to have signed with Gold Coast United and I'm really looking forward to the challenge. Hopefully I will get a start on Sunday in Newcastle and produce the goods for the team.

"I've trained with the club all week and there are some very good players here. They're a great bunch of lads and they are very focussed on being successful. Hopefully I can make a good contribution and help the club achieve its goals."

Miller will face his former teammates in a Boxing Day derby clash at Skilled Park that is sure to have added spice following his switch to Brisbane Roar's biggest rivals.

The game will be first time Gold Coast United have faced Brisbane Roar on United's home turf, having already defeated Miller's former club twice at Suncorp Stadium this season.

In other news, Ivory Coast left back, Adama Traore, begins his comeback trail this weekend when he turns out for the Gold Coast United Youth Team against Newcastle Jets Youth tonight.

After suffering a serious knee injury that has sidelined him for almost two months, Traore has recovered well and will be in contention for a return to first team duty in the round 19 fixture against Perth Glory at Skilled Park.
