Bleiberg said Clive Palmer is the man who hires and fires but the colourful coach is confident he will be back to lead the charge in season two.

"We've spoken and indications are I'll be coaching next year," Bleiberg told AAP. "I'm happy to stay on as coach there's still to be a job done next season."

Bleiberg looked on as Gold Coast's dreams of the championship were thwarted by Newcastle Jets on Saturday night.

However, he has tried to put a positive spin on the club's inaugural campaign.

"For a debut franchise, this was a significant achievement," he said.

"If you look at our season, we were good value for the A-League, a good addition."

Meanwhile, Gold Coast's players have been rallying round defender Kristian Rees following his costly miss in the shoot-out. Skipper Jason Culina told the Gold Coast Bulletin: "Nobody blames him for us going out. We win together and we lose together and it's just one of those things."
