MIRON Bleiberg’s quest to add a dose of South American flair to the Gold Coast United roster has been successful with confirmation today that three Brazilian players will be joining the squad in 2009.
As expected, midfielders Robson (Robson Alves da Silva) and Jefferson (Jefferson Charles de Souza Pinto) have agreed terms with United and will now be joined by 31-year-old striker Milson (Milson Ferreira Dos Santos). All three players have penned one-year deals with the new Hyundai A-League club.
After watching the 185cm forward in a recent trial match, United Head Coach Miron Bleiberg could not resist offering Milson a deal following his impressive performance.
“He’s very strong in the air and for a big guy is mobile and intelligent around the penalty box,” Bleiberg said.
“Milson is an elegant player who has been around and I’m delighted to have secured his services for our inaugural season. He really caught my eye when I watched him and he will be a great asset to our squad. His experience will valuable to us.”
Since 1999 when he turned out for Botafogo (Brazil), Milson has plied his trade overseas with a number of clubs, including Chengdu Blades and Shenzen of China, as well as a stint in Saudi Arabia with Al-Nassr.
Bleiberg returns from his overseas odyssey tomorrow and will pursue his other transfer targets in the New Year, with the club looking to complete its roster by mid-January.

Defenders: Adam Griffiths, Daniel Piorkowski, Kristian Rees.
