The youngster had been on the pitch a matter of seconds as a second half substitute last night when he was presented with a great chance to fire the Olyroos ahead against the current Olympic champions.
Sadly for the Glory youngster, he couldn't take the chance and also saw another decent chance saved by the Argentina keeper.
Mitchell believes the forward won't dwell on what might have been and is just delighted his player is getting the chance to test himself against the very best.
He told au.fourfourtwo.com: "For a second there it opened up for Nikita and of course we'd all have loved him to score. Unfortunately I think the ball got stuck under his foot at the vital moment.
"If that had gone in then I think we'd have been in for a very interesting end to the game. Maybe Argentina would have panicked a bit?
"It wasn't to be, that's football sadly, and I'm sure Nikita will just look to the next game and be determined to try and score in that one.
"We're looking forward to having him back at Perth Glory and I'm sure he'll come back here confident and having learned a lot from being part of things over there."
