ROAR captain Craig Moore is in doubt for Sunday’s home clash with Adelaide United after jarring his knee at training this morning.
Despite young defender Luke DeVere being away on international duty, and Moore pulling up sore, coach Frank Farina was confident Roar would be able to cover the former Socceroo if required.
“(Moore) has just jarred his knee. We’ll see how he wakes up tomorrow morning but he may be doubtful for Sunday.
“If we had no one to replace him it would be a very major concern (but) even if Craig does miss Sunday we’ve still got cover.”
Experienced defender Josh McCloughan was confident he and Ben Griffin could do the job defensively.
“We’ve got Benny Griffin who’s been around for a number of years and played a lot of games as well,” McCloughan said.
“We’re quite confident with Benny that he can come in and do a good job so we’ll wait and see what happens.”
Farina said he was hoping Adelaide United come to Suncorp Stadium in attacking frame of mind for Roar’s first home game of the season Sunday.
After claiming the only win in the A-League’s first round, Farina said the game would open up if Adelaide played an attacking game.
“They’re a good defensive team,” Farina said. “But I don’t think they play defensive football.
“To win games you’ve got to get forward and you’ve got to try and score goals.
“Watching their Champions League campaign they were impressive. They’re a good side and even though they’ve lost (Nathan) Burns and (Bruce) Djite they’re still a very dangerous team.”
Centre-back McCloughan added the players were taking Adelaide seriously, after they denied Roar the Premiers Plate on the last day of last season.
“It was hard to swallow at the time but at the end of the day it’s a new season and we’ve got a new complement of players here now.
“As far as we’re concerned it’s all about this year and building towards winning some silverware at the end of the year. This game that we’re playing at home is very important.”
