The former Newcastle and Rangers star turned his back on the English Premiership to join the Queensland side for the new A-League season.

He missed the Asian Cup to have his first long break from football since he was a teenager and used the time to relocate to Australia and relax.

But today he warned Socceroo stars like Mark Milligan and Michael Beauchamp – who shone in the Australian backline in Asia – that he intends to reclaim his place in the national team.

"I do feel, if I'm fit, that I'll have something to offer to the national team," he told Sydney’s Daily Telegraph.

"I just felt that the Asian Cup wasn't right for me, I'd struggled with injury, and I knew it was going to be another long and hard trip and along time away from my family.

"I needed a break away from football - the first time in 14 years where I'd taken longer than four weeks - I really enjoyed the break and have come back with the old bounce back in my stride.”

He added: "I've got a real buzz and I'm looking forward to getting started again - playing competitive matches.

"I've spoken to Graham Arnold . . . seven out of the 12 qualifying games in World Cup campaign they will be relying heavily on Australian-based players.

"It's something that I'll look at, at that time, if I feel that I'm in a good position - fitness wise - and it's something that I can do and offer something to the team then no problem.”

In the meantime, Moore is focusing on the A-League after making his debut for Roar in the Pre-Season Cup tournament.

"I hope to have a good season, injury free, that for me is very important," Moore told the newspaper.

"It's always nice to come back and work with someone you've worked with before and Frank Farina was a massive part of me wanting to play for Queensland Roar.

"There has been improvements in the first couple of years of the A-League and I felt it was the right time to come back to play.”
