Young, who had played his part in helping the Jets string together an impressive run of victories before his facial fracture, has suffered an adverse reaction to the antibiotics he has been placed on and that has delayed his return to training.

He has missed four games since the injury with Newcastle's form taking a major dive during that period.

Young is desperate to get back into action as quickly as possible.

"I'm still hoping to get back for the finals series. I was hoping to be back in training for the end of last week, or even this week would have been nice," Young told the Newcastle Herald.

"But it's not looking too good now. I'd like to be at the game on Friday (as a spectator), but if not then as soon as I get out I'll be straight to the gym and back into training, as much as I'm allowed to."

Newcastle face Adelaide United in their final regular season clash.
